The report reviews dozens of reports on the subject and finds that people drive less and walk, bike, and use transit more in compact neighborhoods than in sprawling developments. In the City of Boulder, residents who live in detached single-family homes are nearly twice as likely to drive alone to work as those living in attached multi-family dwellings units, who are more likely to walk, bike or take transit.
