Showcasing existing and emerging transit-oriented communities across Colorado

Colorado has made great strides toward building transit-oriented communities (TOCs), neighborhoods with a mix of housing types, local businesses, and other uses centered around frequent transit. These connected, economically vibrant neighborhoods allow people to live, work, and play without needing a car for every trip. They also offer more affordable housing options, help residents save on transportation and utility bills, and reduce emissions and water use.

With major transit projects on the horizon, local land use code updates underway, and new state funding to support TOC development, Colorado is well-positioned to create more of these neighborhoods. In this StoryMap, we celebrate existing and emerging TOCs across Colorado. They take many forms, from transformed industrial areas and redeveloped shopping malls to new greenfield development built around new rail lines.

In this Storymap, we cover:

  • What are TOCs?
  • Showcase examples of TOCs across the Front Range
  • What TOC-living looks like for residents
  • Future opportunities coming with Front Range Passenger Rail and BRT
