In response to today’s announcement regarding proposed data center guardrails in New Mexico, the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) issued the following statement from our New Mexico representative, Alex Eubanks.

“Data centers can bring enormous new electricity demand to New Mexico, and we need strong rules to make sure families and businesses aren’t left paying for the power and infrastructure these facilities require. SWEEP welcomes Deb Haaland’s commitment to data center guardrails that protect customers from higher electric bills and require these large energy users to pay their fair share — and we encourage other New Mexico leaders to commit to these protections too. With smart planning, energy efficiency, and clean energy, New Mexico can meet new demand without shifting the costs onto everyone else.”
