[DENVER, CO] – CoPIRG and the Go EV City coalition recognized Denver as a Go EV City today to acknowledge their ambitious goals to promote electric vehicles in the city and state.

These goals include plans to electrify the city fleet, public transportation, taxis and ride-share companies, and all passenger vehicles in the community in the coming decades.

Allison Conwell, an advocate with CoPIRG, spoke at the press conference to acknowledge the city.

“Electric vehicles are better for consumers and the environment. We are excited to see Denver set ambitious goals to advance clean transportation, and we hope other cities across the state will follow Denver’s lead.” said Allison Conwell of CoPIRG.

Denver’s GoEV commitments:

  • Denver will deploy 200 electric vehicles in 2020, and 100 percent of the City and County’s light-duty vehicles will be electric by 2050. 100 percent of Denver’s public transportation will be carbon free by 2050.
  • 100 percent of taxis and transportation network vehicles will be electric by 2050.
  • 15 percent of Denver’s vehicle registrations will be for electric vehicles by 2025; 30 percent of vehicle registrations will be for electric vehicles by 2030; 100 percent of light-duty vehicles will be electric by 2050.

The GoEV Cities and Counties campaign is a joint effort of the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP), the Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER), the Colorado Public Interest Research Group (CoPIRG), Conservation Colorado, and the Sierra Club. The effort modeled after the Ready for 100 campaign, which has led more than 75 local governments in the U.S. to committing themselves to obtaining 100 percent renewable energy no later than 2050.
