Colorado’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate nears its final weeks for Region 2 households: Here’s how to apply

Colorado’s Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate (HEAR) Program still has $3.4 million for homeowners and renters in Region 21 to receive up to $14,000 for energy upgrades. These upgrades can make your home more comfortable and climate friendly while lowering your utility bills. The program for households2 will end August 1, 2026, unless the funding is reserved sooner, giving you five short weeks to get your application in. The good news is that Colorado has made submitting an application pretty straightforward. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Make sure you qualify (most Coloradans do). Your household income must be below 150% of your county’s AMI.

  2. Find a HEAR-registered contractor and schedule a home assessment. We recommend getting quotes from three or more contractors, because quotes can vary widely. There are four registered aggregators who can help you and your contractor streamline your application:
  3. Complete your income verification. While you wait for your registered contractor to complete the home assessment, you can complete income verification by filling out an online application that your registered contractor will provide.

  4. Compare your quotes. Electrify Now offers a helpful webinar with tips for how to do this. Once you select your contractor, ask them submit their portion of the HEAR project application as soon as possible, before August 1, 2026.

  5. Hang tight! The program’s estimated $32 million in funding was originally expected to last four years, but demand has been so strong that the funds may be committed in less than 10 months. Program administrators are working to review applications as quickly as possible. Do not begin your project until you and your registered contractor receive a formal reservation notice for your project, or it may become ineligible for funding. Based on current application volumes, projects submitted by August 1, 2026 are expected to remain eligible.

After August 1, 2026, new guidance from the U.S. Department of Energy will prevent funds from being used for electric appliances if they replace fossil-fueled equipment, such as upgrading from a gas furnace to a heat pump.

The HEAR program is no longer accepting new applications for Region 1 (the Front Range) counties3, and will not reopen.
