[BOULDER, CO]– The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) is pleased to announce that Caryn Potter will become the organization’s Arizona Representative. Potter held the Utility Program Manager position for several years at SWEEP, and this promotion comes on the heels of Ellen Zuckerman’s departure. Zuckerman, who oversaw SWEEP’s work in Arizona and Nevada and co-directed the organization’s Utility Program, dedicated more than a dozen years to SWEEP and achieved significant and far-reaching advancements for our programs across the Southwest.
“While Ellen leaves huge shoes to fill after her 12 successful years of service at SWEEP as one of the region’s leading efficiency experts,” said SWEEP’s Executive Director Elise Jones, “we are confident that SWEEP’s impactful work in Arizona will continue without missing a beat under Caryn’s able leadership.”
Caryn Potter crafts policies and programs that advance utility energy efficiency and other demand-side resources and transportation electrification through state regulatory and legislative processes. Before joining SWEEP, Caryn worked at the World Resources Institute assessing climate mitigation goals of Fortune 500 companies in her role as a Research Assistant. She also worked with the Laboratory of Biological Invasions in Concepción, Chile, researching the role of forestry carbon credit projects in restoring native land in Southern and Central Chile.
Most recently, at SWEEP, Potter was instrumental in steering the Arizona Corporation Commission to approve the Statewide Transportation Electrification Plan, which set ambitious but achievable targets for Arizona Public Service and Tucson Electric Power to enable the growth of more than one million electric vehicles (EVs) across their utility service territories by 2030.
“Leaving SWEEP was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make in my career,” said Zuckerman, who is taking a new energy policy position at Google. “But having worked side by side with Caryn for the past three years, I can leave knowing that SWEEP is in good hands. Caryn has the relationships, strategic mindset, and policy knowledge to take our work in Arizona to the next level.”
“To take the baton and fight for energy-efficient solutions that improve the lives of Arizona families and help the state’s economy flourish is a responsibility that I do not take lightly,” says Potter. “It is an honor and a privilege to become SWEEP’s new Arizona Representative.”
SWEEP is excited for Caryn to lead the way in our engagements with Arizona utilities, policymakers, and allies in order to advance energy savings for marginalized communities, get more EVs on the roads, and develop consumer-friendly energy efficiency programs for the entire state.
