The Community of Civano
In
Tucson, the
Community of Civano serves as a model of energy- and resource-efficient
buildings in the southwest. This mixed-use community of 2,600 homes is being
built to high performance standards, enabling the homes to consume about half as
much energy as typical new homes. Energy-efficient features include walls made
of structural insulated panel walls with a thermal resistance of R-28, roofs
with a thermal resistance of R-42, reflective roofing materials to reduce solar
gain, tightly sealed duct work, and high efficiency air conditioning systems.
