The Community of Civano

In Tucson, the Community of Civano serves as a model of energy- and resource-efficient buildings in the southwest.  This mixed-use community of 2,600 homes is being built to high performance standards, enabling the homes to consume about half as much energy as typical new homes.  Energy-efficient features include walls made of structural insulated panel walls with a thermal resistance of R-28, roofs with a thermal resistance of R-42, reflective roofing materials to reduce solar gain, tightly sealed duct work, and high efficiency air conditioning systems.  Additional information about energy efficiency at Civano is provided by the Partnership for Advanced Technology in Housing (PATH).
