Southwest Energy Efficiency Project

Southern New Mexico
Correctional Facility

The Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility completed a lighting retrofit project in December 1999. The project replaced nearly 3,400 magnetic ballasts and standard lamps with electronic ballasts and high efficiency lamps. The project cost $89,900 and is saving about $35,400 per year, meaning it is providing a 39% rate of return on the investment and will pay for itself in 2 ½ years.
