Artistic Homes

Artistic Homes is a major home builder in Albuquerque. In 2001, it partnered with the Department of Energy’s Building America program to improve the performance, comfort and efficiency of its homes. More than 700 homes built by Artistic Homes in 2001 are 30–50% more efficient than the state’s Model Energy Code. Key features include a tightly-sealed building envelope, efficient ventilation systems with sealed ductwork, 2 x 6 framing that results in an R-21 wall, R-38 attic insulation, and energy-efficient air conditioning. The energy-efficient homes typically cost about 4% more than homes without these features, but the energy savings lead to a net reduction in monthly costs for the homeowner assuming the efficiency improvements are financed through a 30 – year mortgage.
