Western State College

Western State CollegeWestern State College (WSC) entered into an energy savings performance contract with an energy service company (ESCO) for $3.3 million worth of lighting and heating system retrofits in its 18 buildings totaling 932,000 square feet. The project included replacement an aging steam heat plant as well as a 50 year old underground steam transmission system with new boilers in individual buildings. Lighting upgrades included replacing older fluorescent lamps with T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts, installing motion sensors in nearly every classroom, and daylighting controls that that turn lights off when ambient lighting is adequate. Total energy savings from lighting retrofits are worth almost $71,000 per year.
