Energy Star® Schools

Jefferson County Public SchoolJefferson County Public Schools is the largest school district in Colorado with more than 87,000 students and 135 school buildings. The school district established an energy management team with a goal of achieving 20 percent or greater cost avoidance on an annual basis. A key part of the strategy is to benchmark its school buildings to Energy Star® levels in order to find savings opportunities. The district benchmarked 108 of its buildings, earning the Energy Star® label for 41 school buildings in early 2002. The gas and electric cost savings among the district’s 41 Energy Star® schools alone equals $457,000 annually.
