Energy Star® Schools
Jefferson
County Public Schools is the largest school district in Colorado with more than
87,000 students and 135 school buildings. The school district established an
energy management team with a goal of achieving 20 percent or greater cost
avoidance on an annual basis. A key part of the strategy is to benchmark its
school buildings to Energy Star® levels in order to find savings opportunities.
The district benchmarked 108 of its buildings, earning the Energy Star® label
for 41 school buildings in early 2002. The gas and electric cost savings among
the district’s 41 Energy Star® schools alone equals $457,000 annually. |
