Energy Star® Buildings

Independence Plaza is a 716,000 square foot office building that used to be one of the largest energy consuming buildings in downtown Denver. Building owners and managers embarked on an extensive retrofit that saves them $376,000 annually. Features include:

  • Independence PlazaOverhaul of the elevator system by installing variable speed drives motors, thereby reducing energy consumption 45%.
  • High efficiency chillers that replaced the original steam absorption chillers.
  • T-8 lamps and electronic ballasts that reduced lighting electricity consumption by more than 350 Kilowatts.
  • An energy management system that optimizes the overall performance of the building’s energy systems.

The building received EPA’s Energy Star® designation in 1999.
