Workshop on High Performance Homes
Salt Lake City, UT
On April 30, 2008, SWEEP and Utah Clean Energy co-hosted a workshop in Salt
Lake City, Utah on constructing and selling high performance homes, including
Net-Zero Energy homes that produce as much energy as they consume on an annual
basis. This workshop was the first in a series of workshops organized by SWEEP
on high performance homes. It attracted nearly 70 participants from across
Utah, including homebuilders, energy efficiency and renewable energy
consultants, electric and natural gas utilities, and state and local officials.
The workshop provided a forum for the participants to discuss the features,
cost and performance of highly efficient homes, and to develop strategies for
increasing the adoption of more efficient homebuilding practices in Utah. The
workshop was sponsored by Rocky Mountain Power, with in-kind support from
Questar Gas.
Presentations highlighted the features and costs of high performance homes,
technical assistance resources available for homebuilders, incentives and
utility programs, and emerging programs, such as the U.S Green Building
Council’s LEED for Homes Rating System. The workshop featured presentations on
the Solar Salt Lake Initiative, and examples of energy and resource efficient
homes and demonstration projects completed or underway in Utah.
