Workshop on High Performance Homes
Las Vegas, NV
On June 10, 2008, SWEEP hosted a workshop in Las Vegas, Nevada on
constructing high performance homes, including net-zero energy homes that
produce as much energy as they consume on an annual basis. This workshop was
also held in conjunction with a training session on “Selling High Performance
Homes’, hosted by the Energy and Environmental Building Association (EEBA).
The workshop provided a forum to learn about and discuss the features, cost
and performance of highly efficient homes, and to develop strategies for
increasing the adoption of more efficient homebuilding practices in Nevada.
Participants included custom and production home builders, energy efficiency and
renewable energy industry representatives, electric and natural gas utilities,
and local officials. The workshop was sponsored by Nevada Power and Southwest
Gas.
Presentations highlighted the features, performance and cost-savings of high
performance homes, technical assistance resources available for homebuilders,
such as utility incentive programs, and advanced technologies that are beginning
to be introduced into the home building industry, including Structural Insulated
Panels (SIPs), integrated solar photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, and
indirect-direct evaporative cooling equipment. Two Nevada home builders, Pulte
Homes and Concordia Homes, described examples of high performance homes that
they have completed in the Las Vegas area, including new communities featuring
net-zero energy homes. Below you will find links to all of the materials and
presentations from the June 10th workshop.
