Workshop on High Performance Homes
Phoenix, AZ
On May 7, 2008, SWEEP held a workshop
in Phoenix, Arizona on constructing and selling high performance homes,
including Net-Zero Energy homes that produce as much energy as they consume on
annual basis. The workshop attracted nearly 70 participants from across Arizona,
including homebuilders, energy efficiency and renewable energy consultants,
electric and natural gas utilities, state and local officials. The workshop
provided a forum for the participants to discuss the features, cost and
performance of high performance homes, and to develop strategies for increasing
the adoption of more efficient homebuilding practices in Arizona. The workshop
was sponsored by Arizona Public Service, Salt River Project, and Tucson Electric
Power. Presentations highlighted the features and costs of high performance homes,
technical assistance resources available for homebuilders, incentives and
utility programs, and emerging programs, such as the U.S Green Building
Council’s LEED for Homes Rating System. The Arizona homebuilder panel presented
four case studies of high performance home projects in Arizona built by custom,
small, and large production homebuilders.
