Staff Biography for Tom Potter
Tom Potter is the Director, Rural Programs for the Southwest Energy
Efficiency Project (SWEEP), a public interest organization promoting energy
efficiency policies and programs in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New
Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. SWEEP is based in Boulder, Colorado.
Tom has worked for over thirty years on energy efficiency and renewable energy
programs with Public Service Company of Colorado, the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory, and as an independent energy consultant.
He has developed and field-tested utility energy audit programs, developed and
overseen research agendas for energy-saving measures, and presented numerous
efficiency and renewables seminars and workshops, including Basic Energy
Auditing for prospective utility energy auditors in Colorado and Oregon; Rural
Community Forums on Renewable Energy for energy interests in Colorado and
Wyoming; Wind Farmers Workshops for prospective wind farmers in Colorado,
Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming; and Community Biodiesel Workshops for farmer and
entrepreneurial interests in Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas.
Tom has published peer-reviewed articles in the fields of energy efficiency for
buildings, refrigerator insulation performance, and vehicle thermal control. Two
of his eight thermal efficiency patents have received R&D100 awards. He is
currently the elected Sustainability Advisor to the Colorado Rural Development
Council. His field advocacy was recognized in June 2006 with the Wind Advocacy
Award for the Western Region of the United States, presented by the U.S.
Department of Energy.
Tom has completed graduate courses in Psychology and in Product Development at
the Universities of Denver and Michigan, respectively. |
